“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

It is important for us to realize that Jesus didn’t promise a life without trouble to those who would follow Him. Quite the contrary. As followers of Christ we will experience trials and tribulations through our lives. But it is important for us to cling to His words in John 16:33, “Take heart!!” or as some translations say, “Be of good cheer!” He has overcome the world!

The other day I was meditating on this scripture when I heard the Holy Spirit repeat it back to me. “In this world you will have trouble.” Suddenly, as He continued with these powerful three words, “but take heart”, I saw Jesus there with me, reaching down to take me by the hand as He finished the sentence, “I have overcome the world.” As He spoke He was sort of nudging me forward. Leading the way for me. Hand in hand. Full of peace.

I wept as this truth flooded my soul. That while, yes, we will face troubles in this world, God isn’t asking us to walk this path alone. He sent His Son to walk with us. Jesus takes us by the hand and declares over us “Take heart! Be of good cheer! I have overcome the world!” And hand in hand we walk with Him into our destiny. Strengthened and full of courage that comes from Christ alone. Hand in hand we walk as over-comers.

We can walk through any circumstance in life full of faith, and good cheer, confident in the One who holds us by the hand. Confident in the One whose blood seals our destiny as conquerors in Christ Jesus!

FRIEND, God hasn’t destined you to a life of loneliness and isolation. He has not called you to walk alone. Jesus died so that you might live! He died so that you might receive His gift of salvation and walk with Him hand in hand into the destiny He created you for. Sure it will be scary at times, but you have been given the great Comforter, the Holy Spirit. He will empower you, strengthen you and equip you to walk even the most impossible of roads.

TODAY: Close your eyes and allow the peace of God to flood you with confidence, boldness and joy. Allow His grace to embolden you to walk the path He’s marked out for you—hand in hand with Jesus. And allow His presence to refresh and water your soul.
