“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” Matthew 4:4

As believers we often get so familiar with the Word that we can lose our passion for it. We forget that we “live and move and have our being in Christ” (Acts 17:28). When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness after fasting for 40 days and 40 nights Jesus responded with this powerful logos word from God. This was scripture from Deuteronomy 8:3. Jesus feasted on the word of His father and He desires today that we do the same.

When we are born again the Bible says we are made new creations in Christ, the old is gone and the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17). As a new creation, we are made brand new by the blood of Jesus. Therefore are now citizens of heaven (Phil. 3:20). As such, like Jesus we cannot be satisfied on bread alone. We need the word to satisfy our mind, body, spirit and soul. We need Him to live, to breathe, to function. And we know from John 15, when we abide in Him He abides in us and we bear fruit with our lives.

God is wanting to bring us to a place in our walk with Him where we love His word. His logos word, what has already been spoken and documented in the Holy Scriptures, and His rhema word, what He is saying fresh for you today.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

FRIEND, do you realize you can hear the voice of God? As His child, He longs to speak to you. He longs to reveal scripture to you. He is longing for that simple communion with you where you sit in the quiet of your room and feast on His word. God is wanting to bring you into deep fellowship with Himself today. He is waiting for you in the quiet, in the secret. Will you draw near?

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8

It is time that we stop allowing the enemy to distract us from our destiny—fellowship with our Abba Father—and that we ask the Holy Spirit to stir up a fresh hunger in our soul for the Word. Something I love to do is find a passage of scripture that God has been using to speak to me, I open it up, and put it on my heart and hug it. Reclining in my chair or laying on the floor I meditate on that scripture in worship, prayer and thanksgiving. Tears flow as the Holy Spirit speaks to me afresh and anew as I simply draw near to God.

TODAY: Allow the Holy Spirit to stir up a fresh hunger for the Word which will refresh and water your soul.
