DAY 5

“Jesus replied, ‘If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.’”John 4:10, NLT

Jesus came into this earth so that you could encounter God—not just learn about God. In this passage, the Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water to bring back to her village. Upon arrival, she found two wells waiting for her (though she didn’t realize it at the time).

There was the well with water to draw on and drink quenching her physical thirst. And also there was Jesus, the well of Living Water with which she could also draw on. His was a well that would quench her spiritual thirst and fill her with eternal life!

Isn’t it interesting that Jesus was already there at the well—waiting for her. (vs. 6). Then in verse 10 He begins speaking with her about the gift God has for her. Here Jesus was, siting at the well, waiting for this precious woman to draw near. He was indeed a gift from God here waiting for her to give her a fresh encounter with the presence of God.

Later, Jesus referenced not being hungry or thirsty any longer because His body is nourished by doing the will of God (vs. 34). Somehow from the time His disciples left Him (tired and hungry) to go get food and when they returned to Him at the well—His hunger was satisfied. How? Because it was the will of God that Jesus sit beside this well and wait for the Samaritan woman to arrive.

Jesus went to the well so she could encounter God.

He waited for her at the place she would go to quench her thirst but by the time she left she didn’t even bring her water jar back with her to her village! The scriptures tell us she ran back to her town leaving her water jar behind. She had experienced a life changing, soul refreshing encounter with the Living God through the person of Jesus Christ, Her Messiah! Jesus came so she could encounter God! And this is His mission still today! Jesus waits for you to draw near so that you too can encounter God each and every day of your life.

FRIEND, Jesus is a well of Living Water. Ready and waiting for you to draw from each and everyday. The Bible says God’s mercies are new for us every morning. Will you draw from His well today? His well of life? Of hope? Of peace? Will you come to the place of encounter in your home right now? Close your eyes and say, “Jesus I need you”. And allow His love to come flooding over you and through you right now.

TODAY: Take a deep breath and allow and His Living Water to refresh and water your soul.
