Editorial Services

Your book should still sound like you. Just stronger.

Thoughtful, professional editing for nonfiction authors who want more than corrected grammar. Together, we strengthen the message, the writing, and the reader’s experience without editing you out of your book.

01. Beyond the Red Pen

I don’t just edit the words.

I look for the book beneath the manuscript.

You’ve already done the courageous work of putting your ideas, expertise, stories, and convictions on the page. My job is to help you see both the book you’ve written and the book it still has the potential to become.

That means looking at the manuscript from several directions at once: message, structure, writing, voice, reader experience, consistency, and publishing readiness.

The goal isn’t simply a cleaner manuscript. It’s a clearer, stronger, professionally prepared book that still feels unmistakably yours.

Editing Services

What does your manuscript need next?

Not every book needs the same kind of editing.

I begin with the manuscript rather than assuming a service level before I understand the book. These are the primary forms of editorial work I provide.

01

Inside the Edit

Grammar matters.
But so does everything around it.

A strong book has to work on more than one level.

Depending on the manuscript, my editorial eye may move between the sentence in front of me and the book as a whole.

I often tell my clients, “I’m your reader’s advocate.” As I edit, I’m reading the way your audience will read. If something makes me pause, raises a question, or leaves me wanting more context, there’s a good chance your reader may feel the same way.

The difference is that I can go straight to the source—you—and ask the question before the book ever reaches them.

Sometimes the smallest detail matters. Sometimes the chapter needs more clarity. And sometimes the reader is asking a question the author hasn’t thought to answer yet.

+ Is the core message clear?
+ Does the structure support that message?
+ Will the reader understand why this matters?
+ What questions might the reader be asking here?
+ Is the reader being carried forward?
+ Are important ideas underdeveloped?
+ Does it sound like the author?
+ Is it ready for what comes next?
Your Voice Matters
One of an editor’s greatest responsibilities is knowing when not to edit.

Distinctive language matters. Cadence matters. Personality matters. Stories matter.

The phrase you naturally chose may carry something a technically “better” sentence cannot reproduce. My philosophy isn’t to polish every author into the same voice.

I want to understand you well enough to recognize what belongs to you—and protect it.

Your finished manuscript should feel clearer, stronger, and more confident while still sounding unmistakably like you.

That’s the goal.
The Publishing Perspective

Publishing experience shapes what I see on the page.

I know what happens after the author types, “The End.”

There’s a difference between editing a manuscript solely as a piece of writing and editing it with an understanding of what will be required when that manuscript moves into professional publishing.

Years spent in the publishing industry—across editorial, publishing operations, acquisitions, and publishing strategy—have taught me to see decisions on the page in the context of what comes later.

So even when I’m working sentence by sentence, I’m still thinking beyond the sentence in front of me.

Will the reader understand this?
Does this belong here?
Has the author made the case?
Is something missing?
Does this sound like the author?
Will this create a problem later?
Is this manuscript truly ready?
Manuscript Evaluations

You don’t have to diagnose your own manuscript.

Not sure whether you need developmental editing, line editing, copyediting—or something else?

A manuscript evaluation gives you an experienced editorial assessment of where your book stands, what is already working, what needs attention, and what I recommend before you move toward publication.

Beyond Traditional Editing

Sometimes the book needs more than an edit.

And that’s where a broader perspective matters.

Because my work extends beyond traditional editing into book development, ghostwriting, author coaching, and publishing strategy, I can often recognize when a manuscript needs something more—whether that means restructuring, developing missing content, drawing out a story, clarifying the central idea, or strengthening the framework beneath the book.

The goal is to understand what will make the book stronger—and choose the right kind of support from there.

Then we can determine the right way forward.
